In my personal opinion I feel this SpaceX Dragon Resilience Polaris Dawn mission is the most inspiring space mission in 2024!
Crew members Jared Isaacman Commander, Scott Poteet Pilot, Sarah Gillis mission specialist, Anna Menon mission specialist.
Besides flying higher 458.572 miles above the Earth than any other spacecraft since the last Apollo mission in 1972 Polars Dawn also has both female astronauts Sarah Gillis and Anna Menon have flown higher than any female in history. At apogee they were up to three times higher than the ISS and deep in the Van Allen radiation belt using the Dragon capsule to do some shielding from the high radiation does.
Another record is all four astronauts in depressurized space at one time as Dragon Resilience was fully depressurized for the two partial EVA's by Commander Jared Isaacman & Sarah Gillis in the first ever test of SpaceX newly designed EVA suit using life support umbilical similar to Gemini missions. It was the first ever private spacewalk or standing in space.
For me the most inspiring was Sarah Gillis first violin with a short bow solo backed up by young orchestras from around the world in Sweden, USA, Venezuela, Uganda, Brazil, Haiti. The song was John Williams "Rey's Theme" from Star Wars The Force Awakens while in orbit abord Crew Dragon spacecraft.
During the Polaris Dawn mission the four astronauts were now part of a record 19 people floating in space 12 astronauts Americans and Russians on the ISS with three Chinese taikonauts in their own space station.
They also performed up to 40 critical science investigations during this five day mission orbiting Earth.
